An Incredible Day

My family went yesterday on a snorkeling cruise to Lanai and it will likely be considered the highlight of our Hawaiian vacation. The three crew members were incredibly kind and outgoing. They did everything in their power to find us dolphins, turtles and fish. It was an incredible day! Other highlights: -One of the staff used to work at an aquarium so she was very informative about the animals we'd see. She answered questions in adult language to adults and questions to kids in more simple language (depending on who was standing there). -The staffer who drove the bought knew how to physically drive the boat in a way that made dolphins in the area be more likely to play near us. We saw 3 types of dolphins!!! -My sister brought her 3 month old son (whole family was going and no one wanted to miss out by staying home to take care of the baby) and was concerned about well, everything! They explained the safest places on the boat for him, offered him an infant lifejacket and even offered to work with her on getting him in the ocean if she wanted (she declined). - Breakfast was fresh fruit, yummy juice and very fresh pastries. (Don't worry-there was also coffee. Highly necessary at 7am!) They served great barbecued burgers, hot dogs, chicken and veggie burgers. Some people could whine that the food was BASIC. Well, fine, go on a fancy cruise where someone sucks up to you. -I loved the relaxed attitude on board of everyone. Or as the staff said (which I thought was pretty funny since I'm an attorney): "you're in Hawaii. Slow down!" -Safety. I appreciated that they required everyone to use the fins because "you're in the ocean with currents. You need them to control where you go." They also offered flotation devices in case you were not a strong swimmer and had someone in the water near where everyone was to help if anything happen (nothing did for anyone). Also another 2 staff on board scanning the water ensuring everyone was ok. Easy ways to improve: -There was a list of things to bring like sunscreen, cameras, etc. Because towels were not on the list, we only brought one for 7 people, just in case. Well, there were no towels. We would have been happy to bring towels, just let us know! -Where to park? Admittedly this may have been on the paperwork that we ended up leaving at the hotel (yes, we're that type of family!). My brother in law ended up parking in a large lot about a block away that only allowed 3 hour parking. We ended up with a ticket since we were gone 7 hours. That is NOT the business's fault. Just know there wasn't obvious parking (it was 6:45am, we were running late for the boat and had forgotten the paperwork) directly where you get on the boat so please plan ahead better than my family!

The best part of our Hawaii trip!

The best part of our Hawaii trip! We went on the Lanai Snorkel & Dolphin Tour and we were well spoilt! We left Lahaina at 7am, had two fabulous snorkeling spots, saw a massive pod of spinner dolphins and two hump back whales! The captain and her crew were great - they took care of everyone, were informative and hunted out the best snorkeling spots for us. Our 8-year-old daughter is a confident snorkeler and had a great time.
